Rotary disc valves; wedging or jamming.-A rotary disc valve, especially for use with muddy liquids, comprises a segmental plate c supported on a pin d which lies above the liquid stream and may be protected by packing, the periphery of the plate being toothed for actuation by a hand operated worm h and the housing recess for the plate being of full annular or cylindrical form so that any sediment collecting therein is swept away in the opening or closing movement. The back of the valve plate is formed with an inclined annular groove co-oparatang with a corresponding annular ridge in the housing recess to jam the plate against its seating as it closes the valve passage.
