Abstract

262,116. Karnath, K. Nov. 25, 1925, [Convention date]. Wedging or jamming. - In a sliding disc valve for high pressure conduits the unbalanced pressure of the fluid is relieved or equalized, prior to the opening of the valve, by rotary cams which lift the valve edge at opposite parts so that the high pressure fluid flows through the small gaps opened up at the rim. Similar means are provided, operating at opposite points of the valve rim at right-angles to the former, for forcing the valve to its seat in the closed position. In each case the cams may operate in succession. In the arrangement shown the cams 10 are operated by a spindle 4 and are used to force the valve disc 6 to its seat 8; the cams 14 for withdrawing opposite parts of the disc edge from the seating operate on arms 13 at the back of the disc. The two sets of cams are interconnected by means of a central gear pinion 17 on the spindle 4 and gear segments 16 on the shafts 15 operating the cams 14. When the pressure is relieved the valve is opened by rotating the wheel 2 and screwed sleeve 3 which carries up the valve. Similar arrangements are shown for controlling a sliding valve having two parallel valve discs.
