Abstract

Plug cocks; wedging or jamming.-In a plug cock pressed to its seating by a spring and having means for easing it from its seating before rotation, a spindle bearing against one end of the casing passes axially through the plug and carries a cam member which engages with a corresponding member on the smaller end of the plug so that on rotation of the spindle the plug is lifted until the frictional resistance is lowered sufficiently to allow it to turn. The plug 1 is provided with two transverse passages to act as a four-way valve, and a spindle 5 carrying a handle 8 passes axially through it. A spring 9 is interposed between a thrust bearing 10 and the end of the plug. The spindle 5 carries a collar 11 having a number of radial grooves 13, Fig. 3, which engage with corresponding projections on the disc 15 secured to the plug. On rotating the spindle, the engaging faces of the members 11, 15 separate slightly until the plug is slightly lifted, and then the spindle 5 and plug 1 rotate together.
