Abstract

527,613. Multiple-way valves. DOWNEY, G. T. May 3, 1939, No. 13240. Convention date, June 28, 1938. [Class 135] A multiple way valve device particularly adapted for controlling the fuel supply to internal combustion engines used on aeroplanes comprises a series of spring loaded lift valves arranged radially about the axis of a common actuating cam. Each valve comprises a facing washer 38 secured between a flange 36 on. the valve stem 35 and a backing plate 33 by riveting over an extension of the valve stem. The valves are loaded towards their closed position by springs 43 arranged about flanges on the backing plates and similar flanges on rings 42 resting against the ends of the inlet conduits. The valve stems are guided on a removable ring member 56 and are actuated selectively by a cam projection 80 on a disc rotatably mounted in the guide. The cam may be arranged to open one or two valves at a time. The cam disc has a short stem 84 secured in a hollow actuating spindle 68 mounted in a bearing 71. The spindle is held against endwise movement by the retainer 70 for the bearing and an external flanged sleeve 66 pinned to the spindle. A locking plate 64 is slidably but non- rotatably mounted on the spindle and has a radial projection 65 adapted to be pressed by a spring into engagement with one or other of a series of V-notches in the flange of the guide member 56.
