[Class 135.] Lift valves.-In a doubleseating valve, as shown, for isolating a portion of a combustion chamber in an internal - combustion engine means are provided whereby carbon deposit on the valve seats may be removed by rotation of the valve head 20 on its seating during the last portion of closing movement of an actuating hand-wheel 23. A screwed sleeve 22 has a keyway which engages a key 21 on the valve spindle, limited relative axial movement between the stem and sleeve during the last few turns after the valve contacts with either seat being permitted by helical springs 26 located between abutments formed on the ends of the sleeve and spindle.
