Abstract

260,506. Lea, J. C. Chater-. May 12, 1926. Valve gear.-Face cams formed on one side of one or more discs i, with the acting surfaces of the cams bevelled so as to slope downwards and inwards towards the cam axis, actuate inclined overhead inlet and exhaust valves. Rocker levers k engage the cams and are pivoted at an intermediate point l and contact with the valves at their outer ends, or vice versa. The cam shaft c, whch is parallel to the cylinder axis, is connected by a shaft w and joints x to, or may be integral with, a shaft v driven by bevel gearing t. Two face cams of different diameter may be formed on the same disc, or a single face cam may actuate both valves. The cams are mounted in a housing d bolted to the cylinder head, a groove d<2> in the housing engaging a corresponding rib on the head. Specifications 229,033 and 235,348 are referred to. Regulating.-The exhaust-valve lifter comprises a cam actuated by Bowden gear and bearing on a projection formed on the exhaust rocker.
