Valve gear.-Inclined overhead inlet and exhaust valves are actuated by face cams h on a shaft e parallel to the cylinder axis, rocker levers k being interposed between the cams and valve stems. One of the levers k has its pivot l arranged above its cam, and the other has its pivot below its cam, as shown in Fig. 2. The pivots l are made in two halves to facilitate mounting. The shaft e may be connected by universal joints x and an intermediate shaft w to a countershaft v driven by bevel gears t, u from the main shaft; or the shaft e may be an extension of the shaft v. A casing y is provided, and the upper housing d is grooved at d<2> to engage a corresponding projection on the cylinder head. The cams h may be formed of different diameters on the same disc; or a single cam may be used. Regulating. - The exhaust-valve lifter comprises a cam actuated by Bowden gear and bear. ing on a projection formed on the exhaust rocker.
