Abstract

268,267. H. & B. Valve Co., Ltd., (Axt, F.). Jan. 7, 1927. Sluice valves; wedging or jamming. - A high pressure stop valve has closure members 20 which are jammed against the valve seatings 28 by cam means, and which are connected to the valve carrier 19 by spring means to move them from the seatings 28 when the cam pressure is withdrawn. As shown, the spring means consist of corrugated metal sleeves 29, the edges of which are secured to the members 20, 19 by clamping rings 31, 39. The carrier 19 has opposed conical recesses 19<a> accommodating the closure members 20. The cam member 26 keyed to the spindle 15 has cam surfaces 36 for jamming the members 20 against the seatings 28 and cam surfaces 37 engaging undercut bosses 27 on the members 20 to positively withdraw the latter should the spring means fail to act. The valve is opened by axial movement of the spindle 15 on rotation of the wheel 17. Guides 34, 35 on the valve casing 11 and cover 14 prevent the members 20 from fouling the seatings 28 during the closing movement. The cam 26 is rotated to operate the members 20 - by turning the spindle 15 by the handle 18.
