Abstract

418,744. Stop valves. BAGNALL, T., 51, Southborough, Bromley, Kent. April 26, 1933, No. 12158. [Class 135.] A stop valve for use with high pressure superheated steam has a seat 16 for a lift valve member 18 provided with an upstanding wall 21 surrounding the valve member so as to provide a restricted passage in series with the closure proper when the valve is lifted slightly from its seat and so prevent scoring. The screwed actuating spindle 19 works in a bridge 27 supported by pillars 28 and at its lower end has a flange 23 with a spherical lower face held in a recess in the valve member by a screwed ring 26. The valve member has a flat contacting surface as shown, and the outer periphery of the valve member is chamfered so that as the valve moves to its fully open position the restricted passage is rapidly widened. The valve member and seat may be made of nickel-chrome steel. The actuating screw may be fitted with a knife edge collar co-operating with a fixed indicator.
