Abstract
480,258. Safety valves. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., DUNKLEY, S. F. R., PEART, H. A., and RAMSAY, J. Aug. 18, 1936, No. 22748. [Class 135] A safety-valve particularly adapted for use on coke-boilers and like domestic heaters has the loading means located within the valve casing and has means operable from outside the casing to lift the valve member from its seat for testing purposes which means cannot be used to increase the loading on the valve. The valve member has a narrow chamfered seating surface 28 formed by first turning the valve with a face at 45‹ and backing this off above and below at angles of 60 and 30‹ respectively. The valve spindle which has guide wings 27 engaging the valve casing above the seat passes through a central aperture in a cap 14 screwed in the casing. The loading spring 21 is arranged between this cap and a washer supported by the guide wings and is adjusted by screwing the cap more or less into the casing the inward movement being limited by a stop ring 20 inserted between the cap and a shoulder on the casing. A cover provided with a manipulating head 22 slidably mounted on the valve spindle, normally rests on the cap 14 but may be lifted to cause a removable transverse pin to engage the upper end of a slot in the valve spindle and lift the valve from its seat. A seal 24 may be fitted to hinder the removal of the pin 23.
