Abstract
570,939. Relief valves. CROSSLAND, A. G. Nov. 6, 1943, No. 18467. [Class 135] An air pressure relief valve for a fuel-oil container comprises a casing c formed with a seating for a spring-loaded closure j which is carried by a finger-piece g in screw-threaded engagement with the valve casing, the arrangement being such that the closure can be lifted either by the fingerpiece or by excess pressure of air. The closure j is formed on a stem with an enlarged head k sliding in a bore in the finger-piece g, and the loading spring, i is also carried in the finger-piece. When the latter is unscrewed, an inturned flange on the lower end thereof engages the head k and lifts the closure off of its seat. To prevent detachment of the finger-piece g from the casing c, the upper end of the latter is spun over to form an inturned flange. An outlet m is provided. The valve seat may be formed on a hollow plug screwing into the casing. As shown, the casing is integral with the cap b covering the filling neck of the container. In a modification, the valve stem extends through the top of the fingerpiece and is there provided with a collar which is engaged by the finger-piece as it is unscrewed. The finger-piece also screws over the outside of the valve casing.
