Abstract

495,671. Siphon-bottle heads. EKES, L. Nov. 16, 1937, No. 31529. [Class 14 (i)] A siphon head is made in one piece of rubber or like material, comprising a spout 16, valve-closing spring 7, combined safety valve and charging extension 33, outer sleeve 19 for securing the head to the bottle 18 by means of a clamp 21, and inner sleeve 17 for holding the dip tube 16. The spring 7 engages a collar 4 on the valve-operating knob 2. The safety valve comprises a chamber 25 connected to the bottle by a passage 24 and to atmosphere by a port 27, the latter being closed by a disc 26. For charging the bottle with air, a bulb pump may be fitted to the passage 28, the wall 25a of chamber 25 being shaped to prevent the disc 26 from closing the passage 24. The dip tube is a sliding fit in the extension 17, so that the pressure within the bottle, acting in the valve chamber 11, acts to force the lower end of the tube against the bottom of the bottle. The spout 16 may be formed with projections 55, Fig. 11, to produce whirling of the liquid and, in consequence, a foaming discharge. Alternatively, the spout may be fitted with a sleeve housing a dished and perforated splash plate, for the same purpose. The valve arrangement 26 may be dispensed with. In a modification, Fig. 2, a separate member 1a, having a flange 35a to engage the bottle neck, is formed with the spring 7, the inner end of the spout, and the inner sleeve 17. The safety and charging valve comprises a nipple 42 and a threaded plug 39 provided with a threaded socket 28a for attachment of a ball pump. The head is secured to the bottle by a one-part screwed ring 37 and a resilient or split ring 36. The latter has cylindrical end parts 36a of different lengths, so that its reversal enables the head to be secured to bottles of various sizes. The outer 'sleeve 19 is threaded for engagement with the ring 37, and may be reinforced by a metal liner which is inwardly flanged at its upper end. Metal caps may be provided for protecting the valve knob 2 and spout 16, and are interconnected and secured to the head by a breakable seal until the siphon bottle is taken into use.
