[Class 125 (iii)] A closure for containers for sterile liquids having a dispensing nozzle communicating with the interior of the closure body and an air filter is provided with a passageway for air through the filter and closure body with manually operable means in the filter for closing the passageway at its opposite end and normally sealing the interior of the filter against commu n ication with the air. As shown the dispensing nozzle 19 provided with a cap 22 is fitted into the body 17 of the closure 10 which screws upon the neck of the container 14 and the filter 42 is contained in the space between a cylinder 27 fixed in the wall of a well 11. of the closure body and the cylindrical plug 30 depending from a control cap 26 screwing upon the cylinder 27. The plug 30 projects through a hole 32 at the top of the cylinder and is formed with a tapered end 31 engaging a valve seat 58 in a resilient plug 34 fitted in the well 11 and holding the air tube 37 depending into the container. With the control cap 26 screwed up the filter is sealed at both ends and by the cap engaging a flange 25 on the cap 22, the dispenising nozzle cannot be used until the cap 26 controlling the valve 31, 58 is unscrewed. A cup 39 may be fixed on the plug 30 to collect any liquid and prevent it from reaching the filter when the container is inverted in use. The cylinder 27 may be formed integrally with the closure 10, the cap 26 may be dispensed with, and the plug 30 formed with threads at its upper end to engage threads in the hole 32; the nozzle 19 may be formed integrally with the closure 10.
