UHTi-E WALTER T. DAVIS, OF WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOR TO WHEELING STAMP- ING COMPANY, OF WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA, A CORPORATION OF WEST VIR- GINIA.
CONTAINER AND CLOSURE THEREFOR.
Application filed April 4,
To //7. 11-7101 it may concern:
lie it known that 1, burner: T. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Vheeling. in the county of Ohio and State of \Yest Virginia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Containers and Closures 'lheretor, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates broadly to containers, and more particularly to col= lapsible containers of the type having a screw-tln'eaded discharge neck adapted to be screwed into an opening through which it may be desired to discharge the contents of the container.
The invention has particular significance with respect to collapsible dispensing tubes ol the type used for Xeverleak and similar liquids which harden upon coming into contact with air. Such tubes are ordinarily provided with a threaded outlet neck adapted to be screwed directly into the valve stem of a pneumatic tire, and the contents of the tube discharged by merely collapsing the tube. Containers of this character, as heretofore constructed, have had the cap for closing the discharge orifice during normal periods of handling held in position by the threads for engaging the valve stem. Frequently the. threads i the cap are not true, and they so distort the threads on the tube that the latter cannot be threaded intoa valve stem.
The present invention is intended for the purpose wt overcoming the above difficulty. This accomplished by so constructing the dischaige neck of the container and the cap that he later covers and protects the portion of the neck having the screw threads thereon for engagement with the opening through which it is desired to discharge the contents of the tube without actually engaging said threads.
In the accompanying drawings, there is shown, t'or purposes of illustration only, one (Htimttillltllt oi the present invention, it being understood that the drawings do not detine the limits of the invention, as changes mav be made in the construction therein disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope of my broader claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a container having the discharge neck thereof sired to discharge the contents of the tube,
whereas the portion 0 of the neck, between said end portion and the body of the tube, is of greater diameter than said end portion, and is also screw-threaded for engage ment with the cap 0.
The cap C is provided with internal screw threads for cooperation with the screwthreaded neck portion 0, and is provided with a smooth bore adjacent said internal threads to receive the screw-threaded neck portion 5 without engaging the threads of said portion. Preferably, this smooth bore of the cap will be formed of slightly greater diameter than the external diameter of said neck portion 6. The cap may be provided with a conical projection 0? adapted to project into the discharge orifice of the tube and seal the same when the cap is in operative position on the discharge neck B.
An important advantage of the present invention arises from the provision in a container of a cap for closing the discharge neck thereof, which does not engage the threads of said neck intended for cooperation with the threads of the opening through which it may .be desired to discharge the contents of the container.
A further advantage of the invention arises from the construction of the discharge neck of the container with a threaded end portion for cooperation with the opening through which it may be desired to discharge the contents of the tube, and with a portion of greater diameter than said threaded end portion for cooperation with a cap.
I claim:
1. A container provided with an integral discharge neck having a screw-threaded portion adapted to be screwed into an opening through which it may be desired to diseharge the contents of the container and a portion of greater diameter than said screwthreaded portion, and a cap constructed to cover said screw-threaded portion without engaging the threads of the same and to cooperate with said portion of greater diameter to form a closure for said container, substantially as described.
2. A container-provided with an integral discharge neck having a screw-threaded end portion adapted to be screwed directly into an opening through which it may be desired to discharge the contents of the container and having a screw-threaded portion adjacent thereto of greater diameter, and a cap internally screw-threaded for cooperation with said screw-threaded neck-portion of greater diameter and constructed to cover said end portion Without engaging the threads thereof, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set 20 my hand. A
WALTER T. DAVID.
