J. PAR] CLOSURE DEVICE FOR COLLAPSIBLE TUBES AND THE LIKE Filed Sept. 28, 1958 I n ventor A iiorneys Patented Nov. 7, 1939 ATENT. OFFECE CLOSURE DEVICE FOR COLLAPSIBLE TUBES AND THE LIKE Jack Pari, New York, N. Y. Application September 28, 1938, Serial No. 232,223
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in closures for collapsible tubes and has for its primary object to. provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, adevice of this character embodying a novel construction, com.- bination and arrangement of parts through the medium of which the contents ofthe tube or container may be readily discharged.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a collapsible container closure of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly eificient and reliable in use, compact, light in weight, and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical transverse sectional View of a container embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional View taken substantially on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view with the discharge opening disclosed.
Figure 4 is a side elevational View.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the reference numeral 5 designates generally a collapsible container, constructed of metal or other suitable material, provided with a discharge tube 6. A shoulder l is provided at the junction of the tube 6 and container 5 upon which rests a suitable gasket t. The discharge tube 6 has an opening ll in the sidewall thereof and has screw threads Ill extending from the base thereof which terminate in spaced relation to the top end portion of the same, while the top end portion thereof is flared outwardly as at H.
A threaded cap 12 is threaded onto the discharge tube 6 in order to close the opening 9 when desired. The cap has integral therewith and extending downwardly from the bottom side of the top thereof a projection l3 which is spaced from the inner wall of the cap to form an annular channel Minto which the flared end portion l l of the discharge tube 6 is engaged; The annular channel i4 is of a greater diameter than the threaded opening of the cap 12 thus forming a. shoulder l5 which engages the flared end portion of the discharge tube 6 and prevents the cap l2 from separating from the same. The projection I3 is slidably engaged in the tube 6 and acts to close and prevent leakage from the container when the cap is screwed down on the thread 9, while the gasket 8 is compressed by the bottom end portion of the cap 12 to further seal the container. The projection I3 is tapered at its upper end portion as at IE to provide means for flaring the end portion l l on the discharge tube 6 when the cap I2 is fed down on the threaded tube 6.
The operation of the device is thought to be manifest but may be briefly described as follows:
When it is desired to dispense the contents of d the tube the cap I2 is turned or unscrewed to disclose the opening 9 partially or all the way as desired, and then the contents are dispensed by compressing the container in the usual manner.
Although I have shown and described herein a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be definitely understood that I do not desire to limit the application of the invention thereto, and any change or changes may be made in the materials and in the construction and arrangement of parts within the spirit of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is: i
In a device of the character described, a closure for collapsible containers comprising a threaded smooth bored discharge nozzle having a longitudinal slot opening therein, a flanged end portion on said nozzle, a threaded cap engageable on said threaded nozzle, a plunger integral with and housed within said cap and terminating at its bottom end portion in a common plane with the bottom end of said cap for regulating the dis charge flow from said longitudinal slot opening, when said cap is turned on said threaded nozzle,
and a shoulder within said cap engageable with 4
