Abstract

1,070,662. Caps for collapsible tubes. N. NEUNER. Jan. 20, 1965 [Jan. 22, 1964], No. 2552/65. Heading B8T. [Also in Division F2] A closure for a collapsible tube container has a circular edge on a neck opening forming a valve seat 2a on which rests a valve head 11 retained in the closed position by spring arms 12 engaging the inner wall of the neck 2, so that by squeezing the container the valve head is lifted by the pressure of the tube contents from the seat. The inner wall 16 of the neck 2 is downwardly divergent so that the spring arms 12, which are connected to the valve head 11 by a stem 14, may be easily inserted into the neck where they abut against a shoulder 15. A conical seat portion 11a on the valve head 11 seats on the valve seat 2a, thereby sealing the neck opening. A synthetic plastics cap 3 screws on to the neck 2 and a flange 18 on the cap snaps over a flange 17 on the neck into a groove 19 which is downwardly divergent so that the base of the flange 18 forms a tight seal with the bottom of the groove. A conical wall 3a on the interior of the cap orifice bears on a corresponding conical wall 11b on the valve head 11 and pulls the valve head tightly down on its seat 2a. The contents of the container may be discharged by unscrewing the cap 3 through an angle less than 360 degrees, whereupon, on squeezing the container, the pressure of the contents on the spring arms 12 pushes the valve upwards and the contents extrude through the neck opening in the form of a tube, shaped by the wall 11b of the valve head 11 and a cylindrical upper wall 3b of the cap orifice.
