Abstract

1,089,632. Container closures. SCHOLLE CONTAINER CORPORATION. April 1, 1965, No. 13941/65. Heading B8T. [Also in Division F2] A spigot 26 comprising a tube 27 closed at one end and open at the other has a hole (28), Fig. 2 (not shown), formed in its side near the closed end, the tube reciprocating in a sleeve so that the hole is alternately opened and closed, an annular flange 24 carried by the sleeve connecting the spigot to the opening (13) of a plastics bag 10. The opening (13) of the plastics bag 10, which is placed inside a paperboard container 12, has a nozzle (14), Fig. 2 (not shown), secured to it by a flange (15). The outer end of the nozzle (14) has screw threads (19), Fig. 6 (not shown), which engage either the threads (20) of a sealing cap (21) or alternatively threads (25), Fig. 7 (not shown), on the flange 24 of the spigot 26, which is preferably made of plastics. Snap fit locking means may be used as an alternative to the screw-threads. A hand hold 29 is attached to the tube 27 and on withdrawing the tube against the restraining force of a spring 35, located in the rear of the tube by a bayonet slot (36), Fig. 8 (not shown), the hole (28) is uncovered to discharge the container contents. On releasing the hand hold 29 the spring 35 returns the tube 27 to its initial position, thereby closing the hole (28), and a flange 30 squashes an " O " ring 31 against the end (34), Fig. 2 (not shown), of the sleeve (23), thereby forming a liquid-tight seal. Alternatively the seal may be effected by tapering the tube 27 so that the sleeve (23) wedges on to it.
