Abstract

277,772. Withers. J. S., (Esser, T.). July 14, 1926. Stoppers with valves. - A sprinkler stopper for bottles &c. comprises a hollow socket member a disposed substantially wholly in a cork &c. m. The member is internally threaded at its upper end and formed about its mid portion with a flange d which provides an orifice b. A plug member f, adapted to screw into the socket member a, is formed with an axial perforation i leading into a transverse passage j, the lower end of the plug member being of reduced diameter to permit liquid to pass from the orifice b to the passage when the member is raised to lift a packing ring e secured to the lower end of the plug member out of contact with the flange d. The socket member is immovably secured in the cork m by an enlarged head n and out-turned flange o at its lower end, lugs p adjacent the head preventing the socket member from rotating in the cork. The plug f is rotated by an enlarged head r of greater diameter than the cork m, the manipulation of which is facilitated by providing it with a milled flange. In a modification, the packing washer is disposed in a recess in the lower end of the plug and engages a conical seating above an elongated passage which replaces the aperture b.
