Abstract
245,968. Lumsden, G. H. C. March 11, 1925. Stoppers with valves; coating for stoppers. - A closure for hot water bottles and other receptacles comprises a ferrule 1 secured to the bottle &c., and a cap or stopper 4 adapted to be secured to the ferrule in a liquid tight manner and provided with a tubular extension 3 which passes through and fits the ferrule and is divided internally into two passages 6, 7 for water and air, openings or ports 8, 9 being formed in the passages at different levels for the ingress of the water and escape of the air. The ferrule is screwed internally to receive an externally threaded extension of the stopper and and the passages are separated by a curved partition 5 which provides a larger passage for water entering by the lower port 8 than for the air escaping by the higher port 9. The threads at the lower end of the extension 3 may be adapted to prevent its complete withdrawal from the ferrule. According to the Provisional Specification, the partition may be secured in place by a transverse pin which prevents complete withdrawal of the extension. The stopper may be covered with rubber or other heat insulator and may be applied to an externally threaded ferrule.
