Abstract

[Class 135.] In a tap or cock for casks &c., the end of a conical plug valve 6, operated by a pull handle 8<a> or screwed to engage the knurled cap 8, lies flush with the outlet orifice when the valve is closed, so minimizing the surface area then exposed to damp and atmosphere. The valve end 4 may be ribbed or otherwise strengthened to withstand blows when the cock is tapped into the cask. A washer 10 may be interposed between the cap 8 and packing 9.
