Abstract
670,977. Tapping casks. BARNES, F. J. T. Feb. 7, 1950 [March 10, 1949]; No. 6601/49. Class 21 A bush welded to a metal cask or secured within a sleeve welded to the cask has a bayonet joint connection with a tap, the insertion and turning of which opens a screw-down valve carried by the bush. The bush may be fitted to the drain opening of a cask as described in Specification 534,628. In the embodiment shown the bush 8 carries an externally threaded hollow-ported valve 12 which is engaged at its cruciform portion 18 by splines'in the tap barrel 22 when the bayonet connections of the tap and socket are engaged. Resilient washers 23 and 16 on the tap and valve ensure fluidtight joints. The tap may be of the kind described in Specification 605,157. A groove 27 may be provided in the bush to receive a sealing disc. In an embodiment (not shown) in which the bush is screwed into and sweated to a sleeve welded to the cask, the bush has a conical end portion engaging an inner sharp-edged flange on the sleeve to obtain a tight joint.
