Abstract

880,495. Pipe couplings. KEELAVITE CO. Ltd. Feb. 25, 1960 [March 5, 1959 ; Oct. 26, 1959], Nos. 7691/59 and 36232/59. Class 99(1). In a pipe coupling the bore of a tubular member 1 comprises an inner part 3 for reception of a pipe end 4 with a close fit, an intermediate part 5 of larger diameter than pipe 4 in which is located a sealing ring 6. and an outer tapered part 8. A ring nut 9 co-operating with external screw threads 2 or the member 1 is formed with an internal annular flange 10 which surrounds pipe 1 and which has a frusto-conical bore 11 in which is arranged a similarly shaped split collet 12 formed internally with serrations 13 which grip pipe 4 when nut 9 is screwed on member 1. The larger end of the collet engages the adjacent end of member 1 so as to limit movement of the collet during screwing. An annular distance piece 14 is located between collet 12 and ring 6 and is slidable in part 5 of the bore of member 1, the axial length of distance piece 14 being such as to move ring 6 into sealing engagement with pipe 4 and member 1 upon assembly. In modifications an annular distance piece is inserted between the adjacent ends of collet 12 and member 1 and either surrounds or abuts the distance piece 14.
