, J'. KRBIBIGH. SPRING CONTROLLED DRAW-OPP COOK FOR LIQUID CONTAINERS.
- 'Arruoulonhnnb SEPT. 23, 1910.
986,070. 1 Patent e d 1131.7, 1911.
16mm I j/ iz;
srnmmconrnomnn DRAW-OFF COCK FOR LIQUID-CONTAINERS.
Specification of Letters Patent. I Application filed September 23, 1910. -Serial No. 583,359.
Patented Mar. '7, 1911'.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J omv Knnnnon, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and S ate of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improve mentsin Spring-Controlled Draw-Off Cocks cation of j v The arrangement nection with a ii for Liquid-Oontainers, of which the follow in is a specification. I
a y invention has relation to a spring controlled draw-off valve cock for a hquidcontainer, for root beer, lemonade or the like; and in such connection it relates particularly to the constructive arrangement of such a cock for the defined purpose It is e the same with a draw-off cock which is susceptible of being readily applied and in a handy and guick manner manipulated to prevent waste ul discharge and alsoso as not to be so aflected by any pressure exerted to'operate the same, as to cause the cracking of the container.
highly desirable in such a container to prov1 of the cockaccording to my invention embodies such features as mentioned; and to that end my invention consists of a draw-off valve cock constructively arran ed in substantiallythe manner hereinafter escribed and claimed.
In the accompan in drawing is 'illus trated in vertical ongitudinal section, a draw-off valve cockembodying main features of my said invention in application to so much of what represents a liquid container as will serve to exemplify the appli* such a cock thereto.
Referring to the drawings 3 is a portion of a glass container as shown in broken section toreceive and dispense lemonade, rootbeer or the like therefrom.- I
4, is the spring-controlled draw-off valve cock of the character of my invention, which as shown is in an o erative relation in con i container 3. The cock 4, is provided with a longitudinal barrel 5, having at one end a depending vertical valve chamber 6, in'which is screw threaded thereinto a cap 7 having an internal hollow and cone-shaped stem 7, with which cap enand desire" to secure gages one end of a coiled spring 8, arranged so as to encircle the hollow cone-shape stem 7, thereof, and the opposite end of the said spring 8, engaging the head 9, of a perforated valve 9, having a spindle extending therefrom and arranged to play in normal use up and down within the hollow of the cone-shaped stc'm 7, of the cap 7, under the influence of the coil-spring 8, when thevalve 9, is shifted in the said chamber 6, in a manner for example, as hereinafter more fully explained. The perforation 9 of the valve 9, is arranged to register with the bore ofv the barrel 5. The valve chamber 6, is citset at 6, to receive a gasket 0, of the valve head 9, so as to establish a tight joint under the tension of the spring 8, with the bore of-the barrel 5, from the container 3, and chamber 6 thereof, when the vertical valve is not in use.- The barrel 5, is provided beneath the same with a recessed guide 10 and a slotted bearing 11, to pivot a connecting rod 12, thereto and to guide the same in the recessed guide 10, in connection with the vertical perforated valve 9, normally closing the registering opening of the barrel.
under the tension of. the coiled spring 8,'in
order that by a slight hand or other pressure exerted against the connecting rod 12, in an upward direction the valve 9, can be ole vated to cause the perforation 9 to wholly or partially register with the internal bore of the barrel 5, and thus to permit of a vari able discharge from the liquid container 3, into any suitable receptacle, for use.
Having thus described the nature and ob jects of my invention, what I claim as new by Letters Patent is A draw-off cock, comprising a barrel having a valve-chamber, a removable-cap for the chamber provided with a hollow coneshaped stem, a tubular perforated valve, operatively arranged in said chamber and provided with a head having a spindle ar ranged to engage in the hollow of the cone shaped stem of said cap and the perforation of said valve to register with the bore of said barrel, a 5 ring boiled about said cone shaped stem an bearing against the head of my signature in the presence of two sub-m said spindle to hold. said valve normally in scribing Witnesses.
a closed relation and a rod connected with said barrel and valve and arranged 10ngitudinally thereof, for manually operating 5 the latter, substantially as and for the pur- I Wit JOHN KREIBICH.
poses described. ELISABETH A. SHELDIBHER,
In WHIDGSS whereof, I have hereunto set THOMAS M. SMITH.
