Abstract

325,001. Shaffer, W. D. Nov. 9, 1928. Closure members; casings; indicating amount of opening. -A valve for controlling the outflow from an oil well has a tapered closure member 36 seating in a flared outlet 23, the taper of the closure member being of a smaller angle than that of the outlet. The inlet is similarly tapered, a parallel portion 21 being provided between the inlet and outlet, the areas of the inlet opening and the discharge outlet being substantially that of the flow line. The amount of opening may be indicated by a collar 41 secured to the operating- spindle 31, the edge 42 of the collar registering with a scale on the spindle housing 34, or other unspecified indicating means may be employed. The valve is secured at the required degree of opening by a locking member 43.
