Abstract

[Class 135] A discharge regulator for petroleum separators comprises a discharge valve i having two co-axial conical lift valves k, l seating one upon the other, the smaller valve k being opened at a relatively low liquid level in the separator a whilst the opening of the large valve l is delayed until the cylindrical float b which actuates the valves is so far immersed that its buoyancy raises the valve k against an adjustable screw o carried on a part p connected to the larger valve. The larger valve cone l and if desired the smaller valve cone k also, is loaded by weights. The seat of the larger valve is chamfered at w to provide a large outflow space so that no substantial balancing pressure is produced in the outlet when the valve k is open. The float b has tapered ends c, d to prevent the accumulation of impurities e.g. sand thereon, and is guided by a link e. The movement of the float is transmitted by a linkage f, g, h part of which is housed in a tube s to avoid the use of stuffing boxes. A metering device q is arranged in an arcuate pipe r connecting the discharge valve i and the separator.
