Abstract

564,623. Raising molten materials. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., BUCHANAN, H., GOSLING, T. W., and AMESBURY, E. W. April 1, 1943, No. 5261. [Class 102 (ii)] Apparatus for raising molten materials, particularly for filling and reclaiming fusible alloy cores in pipes that are to be bent, comprises a closed reservoir 13 in the sump 12 of a storage tank 10, the reservoir having an inlet 17 which can be opened and closed by means accessible from outside the tank, a discharge pipe 14 extending from the lower part of the reservoir to a discharge point 15 outside the tank and preferably-above it, an outlet 25 from the upper part of the reservoir which can be opened and closed by means 26 accessible from outside the tank, and means 30 for admitting a pressure fluid into the reservoir. The tank 10 has a sloping bottom 11, and the reservoir is preferably cylindrical with its axis transverse to the length of the tank and inclined to the horizontal. An indicator float 31, 32 rests on the molten material which is covered by water 23 heated by steam coils 33. The inlet 17 comprises a cup with holes 19 and it can be closed by a long shank 21 with a plug 20 which can be screwed into a threaded part 18 of the cup. , With the inlet 17 closed, pressure air is admitted to the reservoir by the valve 30 to displace the molten material through the outlet 15. By opening the inlet 17 and the tap 26, the molten material flows into the reservoir and displaces water and air.
