Abstract

121,252. Thompson, W. E. May 25, 1918. Gas meters.-In a wet gas meter, the inlet valve B and its float A are arranged in a chamber E separate from the drum chamber and the valve is arranged to close quickly when the water reaches its low level. The float chamber E communicates with the drum chamber by an adjustable vent-pipe F and an orifice K. When water is poured into the pipe J, it rises in the chamber E, and the air or gas therein passes by the pipe F into the front box; water also passes through the orifice K until it reaches the high lever L and seals the lower end G of the pipe F. As the water in the meter evaporates, the pipe F remains sealed and holds up the water in the chamber E until the low level M is reached, whereupon the pipe F is unsealed and the water in the chamber E descends and causes the inlet valve B to close. The valve is adjusted to close before the water in the chamber E reaches its low level, so that the float is left suspended from the valve. Specification 201.89/12 is referred to.
