Gas meters. - In a wet gas meter comprising a casing a divided by a middle partition b into two measuring chambers c, d containing bells e, f oscillating about spindles g, h, the slide valves x, y controlling the gas flow to and from the bells are operated by counterweighted levers arranged on the spindles g, h in a chamber on one side of the meter, while floatoperated mechanism for closing the gas inlet valve 11 is arranged in a chamber 24 and box 13 on the opposite side of the meter. When the liquid in the casing is below a predetermined level a float 12 arranged in the box 13 which is subject to the gas pressure in the outlet passage 20 closes the inlet valve 11. When the liquid in the casing is above a predetermined level a float 14 arranged in the chamber 24 operates a lever 18 to close the inlet valve 11. The box 13 and chamber 24 communicate with the measuring chambers below the liquid level through an aperture in the side of the box and an overflow pipe 15 respectively. The gas passages to the shells or dumps i, j beneath the bells are provided on the partition b. The sealing liquid is supplied to the meter through a. pipe 21 until a level determined by an overflow pipe 22 is reached.
