Liquid - meters. - Liquid-raising apparatus, which may be used also as a meter, comprises a vessel 1 connected by a pipe 17 to a source of suction, such as the induction pipe of an internalcombustion engine, and by a pipe 16 to the reservoir from which the liquid is to be raised. The float 2 acts on the double valve 30, controlling the suction and atmospheric connections, through a spring 25 and levers 8, 26, so that the spring, in passing from one position of equilibrium to the opposite symmetrical position, operates the valve with a snap action. The fuel inlet pipe 19 opens towards the side wall of the vessel 1. In another form the vessel 1 is formed by means of a horizontal partition in the reserve vessel 1<a>, and the fuel inlet pipe and suction pipe pass through the bottom of the reserve vessel 1<a> and through the partition The float is rigidly connected to the lever 8. In another form, the suction connection is a small hole always open, and the liquid discharge valve at the bottom of the vessel 1 is operated by the float through the spring and levers, and admits air to destroy the vacuum. In another form the suction connection is always open and an atmospheric valve is operated by the float and spring. The apparatus may work with pressure instead of vacuum.
