241,960. Bates, C., Minard, V. G., Perrin, C. H., and Shepherd, L. W. April 22, 1924. Vacuum apparatus.-In apparatus of the kind in which liquid is raised by suction to a pair of tanks, one of which is being filled while the other is discharged, a float acting to destroy the vacuum when the tank is full allowing the discharge flapvalve to open, the flap-valve, in falling, actuates a valve cutting off the source of suction from one tank and connecting it to the other. The flapvalves n at each end of the rocking lever t actuate through linkage a slide valve P connecting the suction pipe k<1> to one or other of the branches E. The float d<1>, Fig. 4, in rising closes the suction pipe E and opens two air valves y<1>, y suspended on either side of the pivot of the lever w, and seating, one outside and the other inside the tank cover. An air valve (not shown) on the rising main h is periodically opened to allow air to be entrained and is actuated by an atmospheric driven motor, one side of which is connected to the suction pipe k<1>.
