Abstract

[Class 123 (i)] [See also Group VI] In a sterilizing-apparatus, water is maintained at a constant level in a tray 11 secured to the bottom of the chamber 1 by an automatic water feed device 23. The innermost passage 26, Fig. 8, communicates with the atmosphere by a tube 29, and its lowest point is normally level with the surface of the water 30. When the water level drops, air is drawn in through the passage 26 which is then in communication with the central passage 27 connected by tubing 24 to the top of a water container 18. Water is thereby allowed to flow down tubes 21, 22 to the outer chamber 27 until its level rises sufficiently to seal the central chamber 26. At the junction of tubes 21, 22, a three-way cock 20 is disposed, also communicating with a mains water supply. By suitably setting the cock, the tank 18 may be filled, the tubes 21, 22 put into communication for the ordinary automatic operation, or when a supply of hot water is desired from the tray 11 through a tap 13, the tube 22 put into communication with the mains supply.
