Abstract
232,925. Griscom-Russell Co., (Assignees of Sebald, L. E.). April 25, 1924, [Convention date]. Film evaporators.- Liquid is caused to pass from an upper section 1<c> in film form down the inner surfaces of tubes 2 passing through a steam-chest 1<b> by tubes 14 projecting into the upper-ends of the tubes 2 and having longitudinal or spiral fins or projections which hold them centrally. The tubes 14 serve also as vapour exits. A definite level of liquid is maintained above the tubes 2 by a float 22 controlling the steam-valve 22<a> of a turbine 9 operating a circulation-pump 10. The unevaporated liquid collecting in the base 1<a> is returned to the upper section 1<c> by the pump 10, together with an amount of fresh liquid admitted through a valve 23 controlled by a float in the base 1<a>. This float may also control a valve in the circulation pipe 8. When the liquid is not to be circulated a float in the base 1<a> controls a valve in the supply pipe to the uppec section, and excess of liquid is discharged from the base over a weir. The upper ends of the tubes 14 may be fitted in a tube plate, so as to form a separate liquid-inlet chamber which may be placed under pressure.
