Condenser systems.-In a steam condensing and feed-water supply plant, the condensate from the condenser a is delivered into a feed reservoir d, from which it is withdrawn and supplied under pressure to the feed pump j, and from which some of the water is returned to the condenser through a pipe n, the quantity returned being controlled by means actuated by the variations in the level of the condensate coming from the condenser. The condensate may be heated either before or after entering the reservoir in an auxiliary condenser and steam heater. The reservoir may be elevated above the feed pump or the water may be passed into a head tank g. The return of water to the condenser is controlled by a valve o operated by a float in the condensate collecting chamber o<2>. An auxiliary tank l neceives overflow from the head tank, condensate from the auxiliary condenser or heater, and make-up water. The auxiliary tank is connected to the condenser by a pipe m, through which water flows to the condenser when the level in the auxiliary tank rises above a certain point. The valve controlling the supply of make-up water through a pipe l<1> is operated by a float in the feed reservoir. When the make-up water is supplied from an evaporator, the supply of heating steam to the evaporator is controlled by a float device operated by the variations of the level in the feed reservoir. The feed reservoir or the head tank may be closed and the space above the water therein filled with low pressure steam. Specification 205,248.
