Abstract

278,170. Higgins, C. F. Sept. 25, 1926. Condenser systems; surface condensers. - Condenser pumps c discharge through a common pipe e into a closed tank containing floats which operate a valve m allowing water to flow from the tank into the reserve feed reservoir h when the water in the tank rises above a predetermined level, and a valve l allowing water to flow from the feed reservoir into the condensers b when the water in the tank falls below a predetermined level. Steam is supplied to the tank through a pipe o which is fitted with a reducing valve n and which may discharge through nozzles into the water in the tank to maintain a pressure in the tank at or above that corresponding to the temperature of the water. The feed pumps g are connected to the condensate discharge pipe e or, according to a modification, the whole of the condensate is delivered into the closed tank and the feed pumps are connected to the tank by a separate supply pipe. The return of water through the valve l to the condensers is controlled by valves v, each of which opens automatically when the condenser to which it is attached is under vacuum. The condensate is passed through heaters d supplied with heating steam bled from the turbines a. The valves l, m may be operated by a single float in the manner described in Specification 263,617, [Class 123 (ii), Steam generators]. Specification 141,015 [Class 123 (ii), Steam generators], also is referred to.
