Heating by heated l i q u i d s ; feedwater, supplying. - Steam is generated at constant pressure in a boiler completely submerged in liquid in an outer container which also encloses a feed-water heater supplied from an external tank. Water is supplied through a valve 7<1> when the pressure within the tank 4 exceeds that of the atmosphere only by a certain amount which is governed by a spring 34; the valve stem carries a second valve 8<1> which opens the tank to the atmosphere when the valve 7<1> is raised. The tank communicates with the feed-water heater 3 through pipes with valves 11', 12' which are closed by a float 19 and its connections 20, 22, 26 when the level L, is reached, and opened when the level falls to L2 ; the valves are also closed by a cam 27 on a bellcrank lever 29 when a float 30 in the boiler 2 lifts a valve 14<1> to cut off the hot feed. Should the level in the feed-heater fall below L2, the valve 14<1> is closed by a weighted float 32 if the boiler is not full. Liquid with a comparatively high boiling point may be used in the outer container 1, which is open to the atmosphere, and a thermostatic control may be adopted. In a modification, a system of hand-operated valves may be used.
