392,085. Heating vehicles ; supplying feedwater. MIELICH, A., 35, Hallesches Ufer, Berlin. Nov. 2, 1932, No. 30932. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1931. [Classes 64 (ii) and 123 (ii).] Railway-carriage radiators are heated by an electrically heated boiler 1 to which condensed water is returned through an auxiliary heated chamber 23 divided into two compartments 10, 11. Water returns to the top compartment 10 and passes a valve 18 controlled by a float 17 into the compartment 11 where it is electrically heated by an element 16 until pressure overcomes a spring-loaded valve 19 and water returns to the boiler 1. The element 16 is controlled by the float 17, and the valve 18 may be opened against pressure by leverage of the float 17. The valves 18, 19 may be interconnected. Steam passes from the boiler 1 to a ball valve 6 which may shut off a locomotive steam pipe 4 or the boiler 1. The admission of the steam to the radiator is controlled by a valve 7, and condensed water returns past a valve 21 which allows escape of water only if locomotive steam is used, by a pipe 22 to the compartment 10. Any steam formed therein passes through a pipe 20 and returns by the pipe 22. During cold weather additional heating means, e.g. a steam coil 12 which can be turned on when the compartments are emptied, is controlled by a valve 12a connected with draining cocks 13, 13a.
