360,645. Heating feedwater. DURIN, H. D., 52, Rue de Tauzia, Bordeaux, France. Oct. 27, 1930, No. 32223. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1929. [Class 64 (i).] Feedwater heating plant, particularly for locomotives, comprises a surface heater 8 supplied with steam through pipe 10, the condensate from which collects in a tank 12 and passes into a vessel 2 and mixes with the cold feed, the mixture being delivered by pump 4 through heater 8 to the boiler. A throttling member 14, controlled by the pressure in the cylinders, may open the connection 13 between tanks 12, 2 when the locomotive throttle is shut and the surface heater receives little heating steam, to allow a large amount of warm condensate from tank 12 to mix with the feed in tank 2. When the throttle is opened, connection 13 is closed and hot water is stored in tank 2. A connection 15 bypassing the valve 14 may be provided to enable overflow from tank 12 to pass to tank 2 at all times.
