Incrustation, removing. - Incrustation is removed from steam-boilers by the addition of petrol or other material to the feed-water or by injecting petrol with a jet of steam into the empty boiler. The petrol &c. is contained in a reservoir 7 from which it flows through a valve 9 of variable opening through a conduit 11, safety-valve 13, and a pipe 4' to the feed-pump or injector. To supply petrol to the boiler while empty, the valves 9, 12 are closed, and the valves 16, 17 in branch pipes leading to the steam-pipe 15<1> are opened, whereupon petrol passes through the valve 17 into the steam pipe and is fed into the boiler.
