Hot-water storage apparatus.-In a steam plant having a greatly varying steam demand, the boiler, which is designed to supply the mean steam demand, is so connected to the steam and water spaces cf a storage vessel that steam may be passed into the vessel during periods of little demand, and steam may be taken from the vessel for use in the consumers supplied by the boiler during periods of great demand. The steam and water spaces of a boiler K supplying steam to, say, a turbine T through a superheater l are connected by pipes e, c to a vessel V, from which stored steam mav be taken through a superheater m and supplied to the turbine by a pipe s. Valves f, d in the pipes e, c are closed while steam is being taken from the storage vessel. Feed-water is supplied through a valve k, which allows the water to pass into either the boiler or the storage vessel or into both. The storage vessel may be arranged below the boiler. A single storage vessel may be used in connection with a number of boilers, or a separate storage vessel may be used in connection with each boiler of a battery.
