Overheating of superheating. tubes, preventing. - In a steam power plant comprising a high pressure boiler 1 supplying a high pressure unit 5, a low pressure boiler 2 supplying a low pressure unit 6 and a steam reheater 13 between the units, when high pressure unit is shut down desuperheated steam from the boiler 1 is passed through the, reheater to prevent overheating. when the steam supply and exhaust outlet valves 9, 14 of the. unit 5 are closed, a valve 19 in the high pressure steam pipe 18 is opened to allow steam to pass through a pressurereducing valve, 20 into a. desuperheater 17, in which the steam flows through U-tubes arrounded by water supplied by a pipe 23 from the boiler drum 24. The desuperheated steam is led off through a pipe 21 opening into the exhaust pipe 15, which is connected to the reheater. Steam generated in the desuperheater is conducted through a pipe 37 into the steam inlet or outlet chamber of the desuperheater. The supply of water is controlled by a valve 32 operated by a thermostat in the steam outlet pipe 21. A float operated valve 35 cuts off the water supply to the desuperheater when the water therein rises to a certain level. The circulation of the water in the desuperheater may be promoted by injector devices operated by steam from the pipe 18.
