Abstract
399,937. Steam superheaters. BOULTON, P. R., 58, Kewferry Road, Northwood, Middlesex. June 17, 1932, Nos. 17236 and 21215. [Class 123 (iii).] The quantity of water supplied to a superheater 6 is controlled in accordance with the difference in pressure between the inlet and outlet steam and the temperature of the outlet steam. The superheater may comprise initial and final stages 2, 3 separated by a desuperheater 6 of spray or indirect-contact type. The desuperheater is supplied with feedwater through a pipe 14 fitted with pressure and thermostatically controlled valves 17, 16. Steam generated in the superheater, together with the desuperheated steam when a spray desuperheater is used, is passed through a separator 8 before entering the stage 3. If an indirect-contact desuperheater is used, only the steam generated therein passes through the separator and this steam may then enter the main steam run directly. The outlet from stage 2 may be directly connected to the inlet of stage 3 through a byepass valve under the control of thermostat 15. When starting up, the main stop valve 37 and blow down valve 38 are closed and the steam generated passes through valve 34 to a direct contact condenser 30 arranged in the feedwater supply. The superheater and separator are connected to the boiler or a storage vessel by drains 11, 13.
