Hot-water storage apparatus. - In a boiler plant comprising an accumulator or hot-water storage chamber into which surplus boiler steam is discharged as described in Specification 129,272, the temperature or pressure in the accumulator is kept constant by controlling the water supply in accordance with the supply of surplus steam described in Specification 191,746. When the pressure in the steam pipe L4, Fig. 1, of a boiler K rises, a valve UV opens and allows surplus boiler steam to flow into an accumulator Sp, to which water is admitted through a valve W operated in accordance with the pressure or temperature in the accumulator. Water is supplied to the boiler from the accumulator either by a pump P2 or directly through a control valve. Hot water and steam may be taken off from the accumulator through pipes L6, L5. Steam may be supplied to the accumulator directly from the boiler. The water supply to the accumulator may be preheated. Cold water may be supplied to the boiler through a valve E, Fig. 3, operated in accordance with the boiler pressure. The valve E controls the water flow in an opposite sense to the valve D between the accumulator and the boiler. The valves E, D, UV may be mechanically connected together. The steam pressure in the boiler steam pipe may be maintained constant by passing the steam through a reducing valve, surplus steam being taken from the pipe at a point before the reducing valve for supply to the accumulator.
