Heating by direct contact of steam. - In a boiler installation comprising high and low pressure boilers A, B so connected through an overflow valve V that excess steam may pass from the high pressure boiler into the low pressure boiler. means are provided for supplying fresh feed to the low pressure boiler in such quantities as is necessary to prevent the excess steam from raising the pressure in the boiler above a certain limit. The feed valve E of the low pressure boiler may be mechanically connected to the check valve R' controlling the supply of excess steam to the boiler. The feed valve may be so controlled by the steam pressure in the boiler that the valve is opened when a certain pressure is reached. The feed supply is cut off when the boiler water reaches its highest permissible level. A valve V<1> in a pipe connecting the low pressure boiler to an accumulator C opens when the steam pressure in the boiler rises above the desired limit.
