Abstract

Feed - water, controlling.-A doublebeat valve D controlling the feed supply to a boiler A is operated by a diaphragm E subjected on the under side to the constant pressure in the feed pipe and on the upper side to the varying pressure in a pipe K which is connected to the top of a vertical pipe G opening into the boiler at the normal waterlevel therein. When the water-level falls, the vertical pipe G is filled with steam, thus increasing the pressure on the upper side of the diaphragm and causing the valve to open. When the water-level rises, the vertical pipe G is filled with water. A chamber M at the top of the pipe K prevents undue rise and fall of the water above the diaphragm due to movements of the diaphragm.
