Abstract

Feed-water, controlling.-Relates to apparatus of the kind comprising a float e in a casing d so placed in communication with the boiler by a pipe c terminating below the normal water-level that, when the water-level falls, the casing empties, and the consequent fall of the float opens a needle valve f, thus allowing steam to pass to a piston device actuating the feed-valve. The piston device comprises a piston having two portions p, o of unequal diameters, and a valve portion t formed with a port u moving in and out of register with the feed-conduit y. Steam enters the piston casing through an aperture m and passes around the small portion of the piston and through a passage s to the top of the piston. The valve is pressed upwards by a spring v and by the pressure of the feed-water admitted to the bottom of the valve casing through a pipe w under the control of a cock x. A chamber k is fitted in the steam pipe h for collecting and draining off water of condensation.
