Abstract
381,474. Steam boiler blow-down apparatus. UNITED WATER SOFTENERS, Ltd., 51, Chancery Lane, London.-(Permutit Co. ; 440, 4th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) March 15, 1932, No. 7722. [Classes 64 (i) and 123 (ii).] To control the concentration of salines in a boiler by adjusting the discharge of blow-down, the blow-down is discharged continuously into an open tank 17, the water level in which is maintained constant by a float valve 19, the outflow from the tank being controlled by an adjustable valve 21. The discharge passes through a cooler 13 and a filter 42 in its passage to the tank. A valve 16 cuts off the flow into the tank when the temperature of the blowdown exceeds a predetermined point due to the cessation of feed. A pressure-operated cutoff valve 22 in the outlet pipe 20 of the tank is opened by steam pressure admitted to the valve when the starting valve 31 in the feed-pump steam line 28 is opened. The cooler 13 serves as a feedwater heater. The filter may be arranged on the boiler side instead of on the tank side of the cooler. In a battery of boilers, the blow-down lines pass through a single cooler 13 containing a number of feed-heating coils 14.
