Abstract

4893. Schmidt, H. Feb. 27. Feedwater, heating and purifying. -The feed passes into a chamber h in the bottom of the heater, and thence upwards through a number of coils m, one only of which is shown, to a second chamber g, which is connected by a pipe i with the outlet e. Steam enters the heater at a, and, after circulating round the coils, escapes at b in a condensed state. The heater is provided at the top with an air vessel p having a float-operated escape valve q. When the water level in the vessel falls, or when an accumulation of air takes place, the float v falls and allows the air to escape. Wire network x, y is provided in the neck of the vessel to reduce the impact of the water against the float. If desired, the positions of the steam and water may be interchanged.
