Abstract

203,482. Hider, G. E. Aug. 2, 1922. Purifying liquids.-A purifier and. mud collector for boilers and feed-water heaters comprises a hollow body, a bell-shaped chamber in the upper part of the body and open at its lower end, a nozzle in the chamber connected to the boiler, a feed water supply pipe opening into the chamber whereby hot boiler water can mix with the feed water, a blow-down outlet, and a return connection with the bottom of the boiler. A pipe for supplying purifying reagents is also fitted, and an inclined baffle is placed beneath the bell chamber. The heater body c has an upper extension e with depending open bell-shaped chamber d. The extension contains a nozzle h, i supplied with hot water by the pipes f, g. A feed water supply pipe A and reagent supply pipe m lead into the extension. The return to the bottom of the boiler is by way of the pipe b. Beneath the chamber d is an inclined baffle for trapping mud, and at the restricted outlet to the blow-down valve j is fitted a vertical scum pipe k. On opening the valve j, the bottom mud and top scum are discharged without disturbance of the intermediate clear water. When a series of heaters is employed, the first one is connected by a pipe l with the second one. Two heaters may be employed in series, one being connected to the boiler inlet and feed pump with its outlet connected to an economiser inlet and the other connected' to the economiser outlet and boiler. The pipe g may be slotted, or have a funnel collector extension.
