Feedwater, supplying; hot-water storage apparatus. - In a feed-supply plant for locomotives, comprising a tank 8 for storing water preheated by exhaust steam, water is supplied to the boiler through the feed pipe 7 either from the storage tank or from the tender. Water from the tender is admitted to the exhaust steamoperated injector 1, through a valve 19, which is maintained in its open position by the pressure of live steam acting on a piston 20. When a valve 34 is opened, the feed flows through a pipe 9 to the storage tank, which is then under boiler pressure. If then it is desired to feed the boiler, a valve 25 is opened and the valve 34 closed, thus allowing live steam to pass through a pipe 4 to a live steam nozzle 21 in the feed injector, and the feed to flow through the pipe 7 to the boiler. When the steam regulator is closed, water may be supplied to the boiler by opening the valve 25, thereby allowing live steam to open a valve 27 by the upward pressure on a piston 30, which is now not subjected to counter pressure, and to pass through a pipe 18 to the storage tank. The tank then empties into the boiler by gravity.
