437,786. Direct-contact steam boilers. WITKOWITZER BERGBAU-UND EISENHUTTEN GEWERKSCHAFT, and LEDINEGG, M., Mahrisch-Ostrau, Czecho Slovakia. March 13, 1935, No. 7820. Convention date, March 15, 1934. [Class 123 (ii)] In a Loffler or like boiler in which water in a drum 5 is heated by direct contact with superheated steam, part of the superheated steam is led into contact with the feedwater before entering the drum. Steam is withdrawn from the drum by a pump 6, circulated through a superheater 2 and returned to the drum through a pipe 7 opening into the water space, steam being taken off for use through a pipe 8. Feedwater is supplied by a pump 9 through a heater 3 and enters the upper part of the drum through a perforated pipe 11. When the boiler steam consumption rises above the normal, a valve 14 is automatically opened to allow superheated steam to flow from the pipe 8 into contact with the feedwater, which enters the feed pipe through a sprinkler 15. The valve is also so controlled by a temperature sensitive member 17 in the feed pipe as to prevent the flow of superheated steam at such a rate as to effect the complete evaporation of the feedwater, and to shut off the steam when the feed supply is stopped.
